JOHANN OEPKES September 13, 1911- May 11, 2003 A loving husband, father, grandfather, good friend and neighbour passed away on Sunday, May 11. Johann was born in Germany where he spent his early years. After surviving the Second World War he came to Winnipeg with his wife and children in 1954 to seek a better life. This he achieved with hard work and his wonderful practical skills. He retired in 1977. He loved spending time with his family and enjoyed his cabin in Ladywood, visiting family in Germany, building and repairing things. He especially loved the outdoors, gardening and hunting. He touched many lives with his gift of helpfulness and will be missed by all who knew him. After 60 years of marriage he leaves his wife Charlotte; daughter Monika; and son Joachim; grandchildren, Vanessa, Nelson and Andrew; brother Willi; and sisters, Lisbeth, Karin and Lisa. He was predeceased by his sisters, Gertsen and Janette and brothers, Georg and Reinhard. Special thanks to the caring staff of the Convalescent Home of Winnipeg. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 17 at 2:30 p.m. in Thomson Funeral Chapels, 669 Broadway.
